A CHINESE SANCAI GLAZED POTTERY MODEL OF A HORSE, TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907). Modelled standing foursquare, with an amber glazed mane, saddle and tail, the horse's body in cream glaze, on a rectangular base and carved hardwood stand. The horse 32cm long x 36cm high, the hardwood stand 25cm wide. Provenance: The stand bearing label for: Anonymous sale, London, 9 November 2005, lot 498 (Most probably a Sotheby's sale). Property of a Lancashire family. One of the horse's ears is chipped and lacking and the other is restored, cracked and restored with associated overpainting to legs, rectangular pottery base cracked across and restored, with small associated losses. Tip of tail restored and overpainted. Some flaked overpainting to front of body, neck and underside of mouth. Some typical flaking and losses to amber and cream coloured glazes.
