Vivida rappresentazione di una coppia di anziani assorti nella lettura di una lettera. Nato a Venezia, Giuseppe Canella fu allievo di Napoleone Nani all’Accademia di Venezia, dove entrò nel 1857, nella quale conseguì più volte dei premi, e anche, nel 1860, il pensionato. La sua produzione risulta assai varia per i numerosi olii e acquarelli, rappresentanti marine, paesaggi, nature morte, ritratti e interni. Mostra una cura speciale nel riprodurre le minuzie e i particolari più lievi e riesce sempre ammirevole per la tecnica, per l’armonia e per la vivezza delle rappresentazioni. Con Eugenio Prati fu scenografo del teatro La Fenice di Venezia. Nel 1870 fu nominato direttore della scuola d’Arte decorativa di Padova, carica che tenne per quarant’anni.

Vivid representation of an elderly couple absorbed in reading a letter. Born in Venice, Giuseppe Canella was a pupil of Napoleone Nani at the Academy of Venice, where he entered in 1857, where he received several awards, and also, in 1860, a pensioner. Its production is very varied due to the numerous oils and watercolors, marine representations, landscapes, still lifes, portraits and interiors. He shows special care in reproducing the smallest details and details and is always admirable for the technique, for the harmony and for the vividness of the representations. With Eugenio Prati he was set designer of the La Fenice theater in Venice. In 1870 he was appointed director of the Padua school of decorative art, a position he held for forty years.
