Taddeo ZUCCARI [cerchia di]. La Lavanda dei piedi. Penna e inchiostro bistro. Condition Report
Taddeo ZUCCARI [circle of]. Jesus Washing the Apostles’ Feet. Pen and bistro ink. Sheet of mm. 218 x 374 approx. Reinforced with paper pasted on verso. Trace of humidity along the left edge, small restoration. The sheet reproduces the subject of the fresco executed by Taddeo Zuccari in the Church of S. Maria della Consolazione, Cappella Mattei, in Rome. The drawing appears to be contemporary or shortly after the execution of the fresco datable to the mid-sixteenth century: it can be ascribed to the painter's circle. It could also be the preparatory drawing for the engraving that Jacob Matham made reproducing the fresco by Zuccari: in particular, the presence of a rectangular cartouche at the bottom centre, not present in the fresco but which was added by the Dutch engraver to place the title “Lavatio Pedum”, and the date of publication of the plate “1617”.
