Condition Report
Suggestiva ed elegante raffigurazione, forse uno studio preparatorio per un’incisione. Il cane è pressoché identico a quello presente nella stampa ‘La freccia di Cupido’ del 1792. Questa notevole incisione è stata proposta nel 2011, con il titolo ‘La flechas de Cupido’, dalla Casa d’Aste Ansorena di Madrid (10/11/2011, Pinturas, N° lotto 249). Francesco Novelli, 1764-1836, fu poeta, pittore, incisore e disegnatore di non poca abilità. Figlio del pittore e incisore veneziano Pier Antonio Novelli, si esercitò moltissimo nel ricopiar l’arte degli antichi maestri quali il Mantegna o il Guercino. Di lui il padre diceva che disegnasse contraffazioni fatte così bene che sarebbero state prese per autentiche. Ebbe molto successo come incisore e incise opere del Rembrandt, per il Remondini e altri illustri autori ed editori. Novelli s’impegnò nella riproduzione delle acqueforti di Rembrandt, già facenti parte della collezione di Anton Maria Zanetti il vecchio, esaltando così l’opera dell’artista geniale, libero da ogni modulo o soggetto prefissato.
