CALLOT, Jacques. La Carriere de Nancy. XVI secolo Incisione di mm. 169x514. Stato II/II, in basso è aggiunta la scritta “Israel Siluestre excudit Parisij Cum Privilegio Regis”. Buono stato di conservazione. Magnifica incisione. Una veduta di un carnevale all'inizio del 1600 nella città natale di Callot, Nancy. Callot raffigura una delle grandi piazze della città, animata da una festa con acrobati, spadaccini che si sfidano, commedianti della Commedia Italiana, un corteo di cavalieri seguito da un carro, allegoria dell'Amore. I lati della piazza sono definiti da eleganti case, lo sfondo dal palazzo ducale, mentre si celebra la festività del carnevale. In alto spicca l’emblema della Lorena e una banderuola con inciso “Les Ioustes et Tournois, Combats et aues ieux de recreation”.Lieure 589

Engraving of 169x514 in state II/II, on the lower part the written: “Israel Siluestre excudit Parisij Cum Privilegio Regis”. Good specimen. Magnificent engraving. A view of a carnival during the early 1600s in Callot's hometown of Nancy. Callot depicts one of the great squares of the city, animated by a party with acrobats, swordsmen who compete, comedians of the Italian Comedy, a procession of knights followed by a chariot, an allegory of Love.The sides of the square are defined by elegant houses, the background by the ducal palace, while the feast of the carnival is celebrated. At the top stands the emblem of Lorraine and a weather vane with written: “Les Ioustes et Tournois, Combats et aues ieux de recreation”. Lieure 589
