Dalla serie "Setsugekka" (Gli amici del poeta, la neve, la luna e i fiori). Bando Hirosaburo e Jitsukawa Ensaburo si affrontano di notte. Setsugekka ("Neve, luna, fiori"), un tema frequente nell'arte e nella letteratura giapponese classica e moderna. Tradizionalmente, i disegni che rappresentano il cambiamento delle stagioni sono presentati in scene con la neve, la luna e fiori. Questa stampa è un esempio di Mitate-e, “guarda e confronta le immagini”, i personaggi e le opere teatrali sono collegati a uno di questi temi classici.

From the series "Setsugekka" (The Poet's Friends, Snow, Moon and Flowers). Bando Hirosaburo and Jitsukawa Ensaburo at night are hostile to each other. Setsugekka ("Snow, Moon, Flowers"), a frequently encountered theme in classical and modern Japanese art and literature, was a perennially popular subject in ukiyo-e prints and paintings. Traditionally, designs representing the changing seasons are presented in scenes with snow, moon and flowers. This print is an example of Mitate-e, "look and compare pictures", the characters and plays are related to one of these classical themes.
