約十八世紀 藏傳木雕彩繪龍紋衣箱 一對
This pair of large chests probably dates from the heyday of the production during the eighteenth century. They were made to impress and must have belonged to an individual or institution of some wealth, possibly one of the larger monasteries.
Buckley notes that they attempted to emulate Chinese Imperial designs, with nine dragons being a symbol of the Chinese Emperor. The depiction of nine dragons across the two chests therefore implies a flattering comparison between their owner with the Chinese Imperial family.
