Tibet, 18th/19th century Depicting the wrathful face of Mahakala with piercing eyes and eyebrows resembling flames with a skullcup bowl containing the Offering of the Five Senses (heart, ears, tongue, eyes, and nose) and along the base panel there are several skull cup bowls on a lattice background. 84cm × 109cm × 22cm (33in x 43in x 8 3/4in).

The designs present on this chest are frequently painted on cabinets and offering thangka from protector-deity shrines. They are also sometimes represented in three-dimensional form as butter sculptures, which may be housed inside the cabinet. This cabinet contains shelves for placing butter offerings behind the door painted with fierce disembodied features.
