A double peacock ‘king john’ tureen with cover and stand Of octagonal form, decorated in famille rose enamels, with twin animal mask handles, raised on a straight slightly flaring foot, the cover with a curled finial, the body and stand painted with a brightly coloured peacock and peahen perched on a rock formation under a towering peony branch in full bloom, surrounded by a band of fleur-de-lis, the outer edge decorated with a diaper-pattern border in rouge de fer alternating with narrow blue scrolls, the bases glazed. Period: Qianlong (1736?1795). Length: 37 cm (tureen).

Small spots with glaze loss and some wear. Cover: spot of glaze loss on knop.
Tureen: crack app 15 cm on body.
