A flask with pinched handle Of elongated form imitating a leather bottle, flattened towards the top with a short tapering cylindrical spout and loop handle pressed with thumb markings, the upper part covered with an attractive green lead glaze, falling short of the base revealing pinkish buff ware. Period: Liao (907 - 1125), 10th century. Height: 30 cm.
A similar green-glazed bottle, from the collection of Victor Hague, was exhibited at the China Institute in America exhibition, Ceramics in the Liao Dynasty, 1973, illustrated by Mino Yutaka in the Catalogue, pl. 16; another is in the Tokyo National Museum, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 169 and in the Heibonsha Series, no. 14, pl. 21. A bottle of this type was found in Liao tomb II.
