Description: QING EIGHT PANEL CHINESE DRAUGHT SCREEN - Circa 1800.Hardwood framed Chinese screen of superior quality having 8 hinged panels with four (painted) alabaster panels set in each of the large panels. The alabaster is finely painted in old polychrome colors, with a total of approximately 61 individual figures shown in various scenes. Other panels are inscribed with Chinese characters which tell the story of the festive occasion for which the screen was made. "Chia Ching 8th Year, Spring, A Fortunate day, Dated 1803". The verso has painted landscape scenes. Condition good; several panels are cracked and one has a small chip at the crack line. Provenance: Purchased from Harrods, London 1975; has remained the Property of a Private Collector. Screen is 36.5"H, each panel is 8"W
