Description: RARE MASONS & CO IRONSTONE FIREPLACE SURROUND - Done in the Cantonese style/pattern. Comprised of eight separate pieces of individually made porcelain of the ironstone type. One upright is marked with one of the rarest marks that Mason Ironstone used, identified as Mark 2542 in Geoffrey Godden; "Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks". This mark dates the fireplace 1825-37. Note; Very few produced, mostly made to order from a pattern book. Condition good; some cracks and minor chips; one top of mantel section (yellowish cast) is likely a replacement. Provenance; Purchased from Harrods, London 1975; has remained the Property of a Private Collector. Pedestals 37"H, mantel back 10.75:H x 41"W, mantel top 62"W x 11"D.
