A pair of Chinese blue and white copper-mounted hookah bases and a blue and white tapered pipe base 19th century 清十九世紀 青花水煙瓶一組三件 The bases shaped as potiches are decorated with the lower section of a dragon amongst clouds above a band of waves, and are mounted with a copper neck decorated with flowers, the side mounts decorated with bats and are fitted with a swing handle. The pipe base is of trapezoidal form and is decorated to each side with alternating shuangxi character and a stylised shou characters, the top with a four-character mark reading ‘Tongzhi liu nian’ (6th year of Tongzhi reign, corresponding to 1868), and one face with two characters reading ‘ban yong’ (for use). The pair of ‘dragon and cloud’ bases: 10 cm. (3 7/8 in.) diameter The trapezoid base: 8 cm. (3 in.) high Condition: The pair of ‘dragon’ bases: One: with a crack to the base. Both: unable to examine areas below the copper mounts. The trapezoid base: Chips to the corners, the largest approx. 1.5 cm.
