The clay has a nice whiteness to it. The glazes feel smooth, slick and look shiny. The designs have been painted in rich red, rose, green, brown, and light green enamels. Black has been used to outline and accent. The red glaze is not dry but has a nice smooth feel, unlike later wears. There are two protuberances that have dual holes to fit the twisted metal handle, which is original. The lid is circular and has a flange that fits over the pota€?s mouth. There is a hole in the center of the lid to let steam escape. The lid is decorated with pine boughs.The mouth rim is unglazed as is the lid under edge and the foot ring. The foot ring is very soft feeling from wear; the teapot has been moved on a surface for a long time. The base itself is glazed.
