Chinese little boys in the garden decorated set of early porcelain bowls.Set of five small porcelain bowls with narrow cavetto sloping quickly to a central well. The bowls are hand painted with cobalt blue in a design of four boys on the sides and a boy in a garden in the central well. They are surrounded by flower panels and a circular repeating design. There is a repeating rim border of a diamond pattern. The white body glaze has a bluish tint. The bowls are thinly-potted by hand and are translucent when held up to the light. They show the pottera€?s wheel rings under the glaze. The glaze has a thin smooth feel. The foot ring is unglazed and has a nice worn feel that shows age. The cobalt blue color is a nice dark blue with no purplish tint. There are no marks or labels.MEASUREMENTS Each bowl measures 6 3/8a€ diameter x 1 ??a€ tall. Weight 5.5 oz (155 g) Set weighs 1 lb 2.2 oz (795 oz)CONDITION There are kiln flaws in the form of pin hole glaze losses and glazed over divets. One has a restuck break and missing notch. One has a major crack in the central well with a chip missing on the boys face. Amazingly, enough only two rim chips and these are on the two damaged bowls. One bowl rings like a bell so probably no rim chips or cracks. The other two bowls must have a hairline as they don't ring. Visually they look great together.Fun design of little boys in the garden, making an instant blue and white statement.Item ID: Por-721
