An incredibly large shiny and ornate Victorian cake basket by Pairpoint. This opulent basket will be a great serving dish at any holiday feast. It will show off exquisitely.An ovoid silver plate cake basket with a central design of a raised tooled cherry branch with leaves and fruit. The ends have embellished pairs of lovebirds. These are surrounded by floral lined flourishes. The edge of the basket is interestingly pointed and curved. The handle too is very ornate with flowers at the base attaching to a ribbed handle.The piece is very shiny and full of silver. The central well has a textured surface while the rest of the dish is shiny and reflective. The basket is supported by four filigree legs that curve down and outward, and are decorated with flowers, beads and scrolls. The basket inside and out is well crafted and well finished. It has a good weight to it.There is a Victorian silver plate mark on the underside. It reads; PAIRPOINT MFGCO NEW BEDFORD MASS. There is a circle with QUADRUPLE . PLATE . with a diamond shape and design. The number 1228 with what looks like a U and LMEASUREMENTS 13 ??a€ long x 11a€ wide x 3 1/3a€ tall (with handle raised 8 ??a€ tall). Weight 2 lb 3.2 oz (1 kg)CONDITION The basket must have been re-plated recently, as it shows so much silver. The handle doesna€?t stand on its own and has small nicks. There are tiny holes in the central well. This is probably old wear. The basket shows very well. The silver is like a mirror.One of the most ornate baskets Ia€?ve seen.
