A heavy, over-the-top Victorian silver plate teapot by Meriden Silver Plate Company with cute hummingbirds buzzing around lily pads and other water plants. The body of this tall, heavy metal teapot is nearly cylindrical until it tapers down to a raised foot supported by four short elaborate feet. The lid is hinged and sports a fancy club shaped finial. The teapot has an intricate repousse design of water plants and hummingbirds around the body. There are also molded decorations on the lower spout, on the handle, and a band near the mouth. The finial, handle, and spout have water lily pad and flower designs that complement the body decoration. There are stone spacers on the handle to reduce heat transfer to the handle. There is some silver left but it could use a re-silvering.The manufacturers mark is on the base. It reads; MERIDEN SILVER PLATE CO. QUADRUPLEPLATE. These words are in a circle around a rearing lion with a flower. Below this mark is the number 1420 and a separate number 9 or 6.MEASUREMENTS 9 ??a€ (24.8 cm) tall x 9 ??a€ (24.1 cm) wide x 4 ??a€ (12.1 cm) diameter.
