Very Japanese antique look but made in Europe during the Victorian Aesthetic Movement.Circular wooden container covered in a simulated black lacquer and decorated with a gold paint to simulate gold lacquer. The design is of Japanese people in various poses with artifacts and gardens. The lightweight piece has a hole in the top to be used for dropping in pins. The base shows rings showing through the base paint. The wood was probably turned on a lathe.There are two words scratched on the base.
