China, Yuan Dynasty, ca. 1271 to 1368 CE. A very rare and somewhat bizarre celadon jar in the form of a 3-legged toad. Light green glazed animal stands on 3 legs with molded circular pattern on back and almost human-like face, eyes which were deliberately left unglazed. Not likely to ever see another. Provenance: Ex-Paul & Louise Bernheimer collection, Cambridge, MA and Laguna Woods, CA., acquired before 1980
