FINEST 16th C. Chinese Ming Dynasty Emperor Xuande reign period (27 June 1425-31 January 1435) blue and white porcelain moon vase. Shaped in a slightly compressed rotund body with rounded shoulders converging into a tall straight neck, smooth narrowed mouth, with a slightly concaved foot base. The main body decorated with hand painting in underglazed blue of the great snarling imperial dragon careening through cumulus clouds. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity. The immaculate porcelain body covered with a characteristic silky glaze. The glaze terminates above the foot, revealed the pale-creme unglazed ground foot rim, with the central circle base left partial white underglaze. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be highly valued Chinese Guanyao porcelain Imperial wares, with the finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, the painting, and the shape.
