Description: A RARE NEPALESE GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF RAHU CIRCA LATE 19TH CENTURY
The large finely cast gilt bronze depicting Rahu, with the lower body of a serpent and the upper body of a demon with nine wrathful heads, holding a makhara banner symbolising victory over the four maras and annihilation of the five poisons. In his upper left and lower right hand he holds a bow and arrow, and in his lower left hand a snake. The figure wears a cloak made of flayed human skin and a garland of severed heads.
