Description: A PAIR OF JAPANESE ARITA KO IMARI IROE SHELL-FORM DISHES EDO PERIOD (1603-1868), LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Moulded in the form of abalone shells, with decoration in underglaze blue, overglaze enamels and gilding, depicting an underwater scene with molluscs and seaweeds. Four character mark in underglaze blue to the base reading 'Chenghua Nian Zhi'.

Very tight short hairline to the rim of one dish, only visible from the back. Some minor wear to the enamels and gilding on both dishes, from normal use. No further visible faults or damage.
