The okimono is skillfully stained to achieve contrasting colors, depicting Okubo Tadataka wearing an elegant robe with inlaid and incised mother-of-pearl platelets, both wakizashi and katana fastened with a belt, a distinctive inro attached on the back. His hair is white and worn in the traditional chonmage. The warrior is standing on a flat oval base, signed ICHIRO to (carved) in a rectangular mother-of-pearl cartouche.
