Description A pair of Chinese watercolor and ink paintings on paper attributed to Giuseppe Castiglione, both with imperial seals. Both are mounted on a silk backing with silk dowels. The first painting of two figures on a mountain road in a snowy landscape has an inscription and ten seals total. The second painting of a market scene at a city gate has one seal. Dimensions are: Each painting measures 14 1/8 inches tall X 18 7/8 inches wide, 35.9 cm X 47.9 cm. All measurements are approximate.

Provenance From a private collection in Northern Virginia. The collector is of Russian descent but was born in Harbin, China, in 1935. Following the end of WWII, her family moved to Shanghai and stayed there until 1952 when they relocated to Hong Kong. These items were acquired during the family's time in Shanghai from private collections and art auctions. When the family moved to the US in the late 1950s, they brought their collection with them.
