A CHINESE SANCAI GLAZED POTTERY MODEL OF A HORSE AND RIDER, TL TESTED, TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907). Modelled standing foursquare with the rider astride wearing a straw glazed jacket and green robe, on an amber glazed horse, on rectangular base. With a City University of Hong Kong Report on Thermoluminescence Authenticity Test, estimated that it was last fired over 1200 years ago, the result being consistent with the claimed period of manufacture, dated 16 March 2000. 35 cm long x 38.5cm high. Provenance: Property of a Lancashire family. Testing drill hole to reverse of rider's head and bottom right of horse's mouth. With extensive overpainting to glazes, the majority of the surface has been overpainted. Very minor glaze chipping and some losses. There is restoration to the horse's hears and tail and it is likely to have also been cracked and restored through legs, the rider appears to have been cracked and restored through neck. Due to the extent of overpainting and consolidation to surface glazes it is hard to ascertain the extent of restoration.
