Japan. Edo period. 19th c. Ivory dark colored, with golden yellow patina, the details finely engraved and darkly accentuated. The raccoon dog and the skeleton at neck-drawing (kubihiki) sitting on top of a rotten lotus leaf. Height 2.5cm, width 4.6cm. Sign.: Yugyoku to (carved by Yugyoku), cf. LA p. 1251. Condition B. Restored fracture at the arms and rope.
