Abraham Ortelius (b. Antwerp 1527, d. s.p. 1598) “Iaponiae Insulae Descriptio. Ludoico Teisera Auctore”. Handcoloured engraving mounted in passepartout. Visible size 35×48 cm. The map first appeared in the 1595 Latin edition of Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum making it the first map of Japan, published in a European atlas. The submission of bids on this lot number requires the prior registration of a valid debit/credit card, presentation of photo ID and the payment of a deposit of 50.000 DKK on request. Registration of debit/credit card, photo ID and deposit is due no later than the 27th of November.
