Unsigned Japan, 18th century, Edo priod (1615-1868)
Finely carved as Roshi (Laozi) holding a rope attached to the ox’s nose ring and resting one hand on the animal’s head. Large, generously excavated himotoshi through the back and underside. Beautiful patina.

Condition: Excellent undamaged condition with expected age cracks. Provenance: German private collection, acquired in Japan in the 1980s/90s.
